Dental treatment under sedation and general anaesthesia
Fear, or the idea of a long surgical procedure, does not have to stand in the way of treatment. Selected dental, implant and surgical procedures at D3NT can be done under analgosedation or general anaesthesia, supervised by an anaesthesia team.
We speak English. The booking form is in Czech — email or call us if you prefer.
Our philosophy
Treatment should not be stopped by fear — nor rushed.
Sedation is not an extra. It is a way to make treatment possible for patients who have been putting it off for years — and to manage a large surgical procedure in one calm phase instead of many visits.
That does not mean it suits everyone. Safety comes before comfort and before the speed of treatment.
Indications
Who may sedation be suitable for?
Suitability is always assessed by the dentist together with the anaesthesiologist. Sedation is not automatically right for everyone or for every procedure.
- —Strong fear of dental treatment.
- —A bad experience in the past.
- —A more extensive surgical procedure.
- —Placement of several implants.
- —All-on-X — reconstruction of a whole jaw.
- —Long, complex treatment.
- —A strong gag reflex.
- —Difficulty coping with a longer procedure.
The difference
Analgosedation or general anaesthesia?
They are not two versions of the same thing. The difference is whether you stay conscious during the procedure.
- —You are sedated and deeply relaxed.
- —You usually stay conscious and can communicate.
- —Some patients remember only parts of the procedure.
- —Used together with local anaesthesia.
- —Suitability is assessed by the dentist and the anaesthesiologist.
- —You sleep during the procedure.
- —You are not consciously aware of it.
- —You are monitored by the anaesthesia team the whole time.
- —May suit selected extensive or poorly tolerated procedures.
- —The indication is set individually.
And laughing gas? Nitrous oxide is the lightest option — it helps ease tension during shorter treatments, you stay fully conscious and the effect wears off soon after. It does not replace analgosedation or general anaesthesia for extensive surgery.
Safety
Safety is the absolute priority when planning sedation and anaesthesia.
No anaesthesia is without risk. We always assess the suitability of a specific form individually, with regard to your health and the planned procedure.
The anaesthesia is provided by a cooperating anaesthesiologist who monitors you throughout the procedure and sets the pre- and post-operative instructions.
- —Your overall health and chronic conditions.
- —Medication you take regularly.
- —Allergies and previous reactions to anaesthesia.
- —The extent and expected length of the procedure.
- —Supervision and recovery after the procedure.
If analgosedation or general anaesthesia is not suitable, we will tell you — and suggest a safer approach.

FAQ
Sedation and anaesthesia at the dentist
What is the difference between analgosedation and general anaesthesia?+
Under analgosedation you usually stay conscious — sedated, relaxed and only partly aware of the procedure, while local anaesthesia controls pain. Under general anaesthesia you sleep and are not consciously aware of the procedure.
The choice depends on the extent of the procedure, your health and the anaesthesiologist’s assessment.
Will I feel anything during implant surgery?+
Pain during the procedure is controlled by local anaesthesia. If you are conscious, you may feel pressure, vibration or movement in the treated area.
Analgosedation greatly reduces stress and awareness of the procedure. Under general anaesthesia you are not consciously aware of it.
Can dental implants be placed under general anaesthesia?+
Yes, for suitable patients and indicated procedures — especially more extensive surgical phases and full-arch reconstructions.
Suitability is assessed by the dentist together with the anaesthesiologist based on your health and the planned treatment.
Is sedation suitable for everyone?+
No. It depends on your health, medication, the type of procedure and the anaesthesiologist’s assessment. For some patients another approach is safer.
That is why preparation includes an anaesthesia consultation, not just the patient’s decision.
How long will I stay at the clinic afterwards?+
After analgosedation and general anaesthesia there is a period of recovery and supervision — its length depends on the method and how the procedure went.
You will get exact information, including whether you need someone to take you home, at the anaesthesia consultation.
I am terrified of the procedure. Where do I start?+
With a consultation, not a procedure. We first find out the actual state of your teeth and create a treatment plan — only then do you choose a form of treatment you can manage.
At the consultation nobody judges you for the condition you come in with or how long you have put treatment off.
Fear doesn’t have to decide whether you get your teeth fixed.
The first step doesn’t have to be a procedure. Come for a consultation — we assess your teeth, propose a plan and discuss what form of treatment you can manage.
